October Mourning: A Song for Matthew Shepard

Based on the dramatic and heartbreaking book of poetry by acclaimed author Leslea Newman, and with hauntingly beautiful music by Curtis Heard, October Mourning is a retelling of the tragic night in Laramie Wyoming in 1999 when 21-year-old college student Matthew Shepard was kidnapped from a bar, robbed him, beat him, and tied him to a buck rail fence and left him to die.  Told in vignettes from the perspectives of those involved—the parents, the kidnappers, the bartender, as well as the gun that beat him, the fence he was tied to, and the deer that laid with him through the night—this thought-provoking and moving evening of theatre was one that none of the audience members will ever forget.
